College’s first administrators, including staff and service personnel, hired (c. February 1, 1967): Robert Webb, superintendent of the Shelbyville school system, was named Vice President. The Dean of Arts and Sciences was Thomas Deem, a former junior college instructor pursuing an Ed. D. from the University of Illinois at the time of his appointment. Dale Roberts—respected for his efforts to establish vocational and technical programs at various high schools in the state, was the college’s Dean of Vocational-Technical Education—while Charles Crites was the Associate Dean of this area. Crites’ had been the director of Manpower projects for the Mattoon area, and he had experience with similar programs at the state and federal level.This site has been built with the partnership of district newspapers.
