Lake Land College’s Adult Ed Center offer Family Literacy ProgramSometimes taking the first step can be difficult for adults who are interested in enhancing their reading, writing and math skills. That’s why Lake Land College’s Adult Education Center is offering a free Family Literacy Program for qualifying families. “The program offers adults 17 and over with young children a chance to improve their reading, writing and math skills in addition to enhancing their parenting skills,” said Erin Lawler, program coordinator. “It can be very strenuous to find the support some parents need in order to increase their chances for success, but this program offers a great way for area residents to get the support they need to succeed, whether it’s in the workforce or at home.” Program opportunities include: improving basic literacy skills, weekly library visits, field trips, guest speakers, learning parenting skills, and the chance to earn prizes and books. Additionally, free child care will be provided to children of participating adults. These two-through-five-year-old education classes will provide the children with early childhood education opportunities. Qualifying participants are those who are: • 17 years of age or older; • Adults not currently enrolled in school; and • Adults with children between the ages of two and five. “Beyond enhancing personal skills, the Family Literacy Program offers a safe and nurturing environment for parents to spend quality time with their children,” said Lawler.
