Calling all photographers: Lake Land College Foundation to host annual photo show

The Lake Land College Foundation will host its 34th Annual Photography Show sponsored by the General Electric Mattoon Lamp Plant and invites professional, amateur and student photographers to submit their work. Student entries are open to grades seven through 12. The theme of this year’s show is “The Wonder of Weather.”

Photographers entering the show will compete for prizes in five categories. The categories are as follows:

Category 1:       Any subject, film or digital, with the photo taken by the photographer

Category 2:       Any subject, film or digital, utilizing black and white photography

Category 3:       Any photograph following a theme of “The Wonder of Weather,” taken by the photographer.

Category 4:       Digital manipulation photography (e.g. manipulated electronically, scanned, cropping, color density, contrast, etc.)

Category 5:       Student entries open to grades 7-12 only

Awards for categories one through three will be $100 to both professional and amateur winners. Category four will be awarded a single prize of $100 and student category five will be awarded a prize of $50.

The Best of Show award is $150 and will be awarded to the best overall entry for the professional and amateur categories. There is also a Best of Show award of $100 for the student category.

Each photographer may enter two photos per category.  Photographs entered may have been taken anytime, but not previously entered in a Lake Land College Foundation Photography Show.

A $5 fee for each entry is being charged to help defray the cost of insuring photographs while they are on display at the college for professional and amateur entries.  The entry fee is due at the time you submit your entry form. Entry forms must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 15.

Photographs entered in the show must be delivered to The Virgil H. Judge Learning Resource Center (library), at Lake Land College on Tuesday, Feb. 19 between noon and 5 p.m. or Wednesday, Feb. 20 between 3 – 6 p.m.   Due to lack of space, photographs will only be accepted at the Virgil H. Judge Learning Resource Center on these dates.

All entries will be displayed from March 1 – 31.  A reception for all exhibiting photographers and the general public will be held from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Lake Land College Virgil H. Judge Learning Resource Center on March 7. Presentation of awards and individual critiques for photographers who request one will take place during the reception.

For further information or to request and entry form, please call the Foundation Office at (217) 234-5363 or Special Events at (217) 234-5445.
