Lake Land College hosts ‘Destination College’ info meeting for area high schoolersLake Land College’s TRiO Destination College is coming to your student’s school and will be hosting “Why College?” informational meetings throughout the Lake Land College district. The informational meetings will provide additional resources and tools to current high school students regarding the importance of a college education. Presenters will also review the necessary steps students should take in high school in order to be prepared for college. Additionally at the meetings, students will have the opportunity to meet local guest speakers who will present information regarding their careers and businesses. These speakers will share personal stories that have led to their success and will give students recommendations and tips on reaching their college and career goals. Participating schools include: • January 31 – Pana High School with guest speakers John Livesay from First National Bank and Gina Kuhn from Byers Chiropractic’s.; • February 1 - South Central High School with guest speaker Rachael Stevens; • February 5 – Mattoon High School with guest speaker Donald Freesmeier from Freesmeier Chiropractic’s.; • February 6 – Cowden-Herrick High School with guest speaker Brian Tucker; • February 7 – St. Elmo High School with guest speaker Tammie Rogers from DarnFar Ranch; • February 11 – Casey-Westfield High School with guest speaker Nicole Weigand; • February 13 – Paris High School with guest speakers Bob Colvin of Francis Associates and Terry Elston of State Farm Insurance; • February 13 – Ramsey High School with guest speaker Rachael Stevens; and • February 14 - Brownstown High School with guest speaker Tammie Rogers from DarnFar Ranch.
Students who are interested in participating in the TRiO Destination College program will have the opportunity to register during the informational meetings. Students who participate in TRiO Destination College receive additional assistance through programs, workshops and other activities that are aimed to help them while they prepare for college. Current TRiO Destination College seniors will be available to answer questions about the program for interested attendees.
