The Lake Land College Police Department is a fully sworn law enforcement agency.  Officers are on duty 24/7, and we strive to do whatever we can to provide a safe and secure environment for our students, employees and visitors.  Feel free to call us or stop by our office with any questions or concerns you may have.

The Lake Land College Police Department is working with the Criminal Justice degree program to expand opportunities for students.  The Department is participating in the internship program, and is actively supporting the newly formed Criminal Justice Club.

Another new initiative is the Student Patrol program, which pairs degree seeking students with on-duty officers.  Students assist officers with duties such as building lock-up, patrol of buildings and grounds and working security at sporting events.

Protect your valuables

• Lock your car and take the keys no matter how long you will be away.
• Lock valuables in the trunk
• Do not leave belongings unattended in hallways or classrooms.
• Do not carry large amounts of cash.
• If you discover that your car has been damaged or broken into, do not touch it or move anything unless absolutely necessary. Call the Police Department immediately

Protect yourself

• Park in well lit areas and avoid isolated areas when possible.
• Look in the backseat before you get in a car.
• If someone is following you, go to a well lighted area where there are people.

Protect your campus

• Vandalism and theft raise educational costs, and students are often the ones who pay for those increases. Report any suspicious activity to the Police Department.

Lake Land College provides parking for students, faculty, staff and visitors on campus free of charge. Parking is permitted in several designated areas or lots on campus to allow for an orderly flow of traffic. All motor vehicles are subject to traffic signs, signals and regulations while on campus. Fines for parking violations are $10.00 if paid within seven days; $20.00 dollars thereafter. The fine for unauthorized parking in a handicapped space is $250.00. Fines may be paid in the accounting office during normal business hours. Failure to pay fines will result in the withholding of records and/or denial of registration for subsequent terms.

Often times, students have difficulty finding a parking space. There is an overflow area at the rear (south side) of the southeast parking lot. With few exceptions there is always parking available in this area. Students, staff and visitors should look for parking in this area before parking illegally in other lots.

Any person who receives a campus citation may file a written request for an appeal in writing with the Police Department. Such requests must be made within two working days. The Chief of Police will conduct a hearing with the violator and the officer. The Chief's decision will be final. State citations are handled through the Coles County courts.

Vehicles that will be towed at the owner's expense include:

Vehicles parked on sidewalks or crosswalks

Repeated violations of unauthorized parking in handicapped parking spaces

Vehicles which have accumulated in excess of three unpaid campus citations

Any vehicle determined to be abandoned

Vehicles parked in such a way as to impede the normal traffic flow, both vehicular and pedestrian
