Technical Program

Administrative Assistant - Medical (AAS.AAMED)

Associate Degree in Applied Science

Prepares graduates for a career in medical offices, hospitals, or clinics. Students become familiar with medical terminology, medical office procedures which include transcription and billing procedures, and develop the interpersonal skills necessary to work under pressure. Students gain hands-on experience through a five-hour internship.


Program requirements may change over time. Specific degree/graduation requirements are determined by the student's degree audit.

Development of skill in formatting business correspondence, reports, forms, and tables to meet mailability and production standards. Instruction on word processing software is integrated throughout the course.


Prerequisites: BUS 113 or ability to type 40 words per minute

Develops skill using abbreviated writing in order to take notes quickly and accurately. Provides instruction for beginners who transcribe business letters, memos, and reports quickly in acceptable formatted copy meeting strict mailability standards.
